Choosing the right domain for a UAE project

Last updated: 2026-09-14

A domain choice is a marketing decision before it is a technical one. These are the practical rules we see work for projects selling in the Emirates.

Rules for picking the name

The test is simple: can someone type it after hearing it once?

  • Short, and speakable over the phone without repeating.
  • No hyphens and no digits when you can avoid them.
  • Pronounceable in both Arabic and English if your audience speaks both.

Which extension to pick

.com is the safe default, .ae tells your customer you are local, and extensions like .co or .me fit when the .com name is taken. The rule: an extension never rescues a bad name.

Before you pay

Check that the name does not ride on someone else's registered trademark in the market you sell into, and that its near variants do not lead to a competitor.

Common questions

.ae or .com?

If your business is distinctly Emirates, .ae says so instantly. If your audience is wider, .com is simpler to say. Many projects take both.

What if the name is taken?

Try a shorter form or a different word before adding digits or hyphens; a speakable name matters more than matching your first idea.

Should I buy more than one domain?

If the name is core to your brand, register its nearest variants to prevent confusion. On a tight budget, start with one.
